~~~ Black Solidarity Day Unity March

“The most important day for Black people this year in America is Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, the 51st anniversary of Black Solidarity Day,” said Omowale Clay, activist and December 12th Movement member. “On Black Solidarity Day the Black nation declares a general strike on this oppressive system by declaring ‘No Work, No School, No Shopping.’ The total withdrawal of our energy and labor from this system is indeed one of the highest forms of Black power being exercised.”

Marching through the streets of Brooklyn.

The march paused at 10 Claver Place, to pay respect to Jitu Weusi and The East.
The East was a community education and arts organization in Brooklyn, New York focused on black nationalism founded in 1969.

Black VegFest has been dedicated to the growth and vitality of the community, and this means fighting for reparations, healthcare, mental health, defunding the police, healthy school choice and animal liberation.

List of Demands & Positions:

- End Livestock Farming
- Ban Forced Cow Milk in Schools
- End Live Animal Markets
- Medicare for All
- Right to Mental Health

~~~ Annual Thunderbird American Indian Powwow at Queens County Farm Museum in Floral Park, NY

At this 41st annual intertribal event, forty indigenous nations were present.

We experienced dancers in full regalia.

Presented by the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers, the three-day program offered traditions like the gourd, round, and rabbit dances. The performers explained each dance to visiting families.

On display, and for sale, were many painstakingly detailed and beautiful handmade Native crafts, art and jewelry.

"A Pow-Wow is more than just a spectator event: it is a joyous reunion for native peoples nationwide and an opportunity for the non-Indian community to voyage into the philosophy and beauty of Native culture. Traditionally a gathering and sharing of events, Pow-Wows have come to include spectacular dance competitions, exhibitions, and enjoyment of traditional foods."

40 Vendors are part of the extended Pow-Wow family, sharing their Native crafts, foods demonstrations and stories while selling only Native items made by American Indian crafts peoples and artists from the Carolinas, Peru, New Mexico, New York, Puerto Rico, Oklahoma, Arizona, Canada and much more.

~~~ @AlegbaAndFriends plays nightly shows at the Prospect Park Boathouse.

Alegba and Friends consists of Alegba Jahyile @jahyile, Mark Kraszewski @MarkKraszewski, and a variety of guest musicians and vocalists. e.g. Michael Olatuja @MichaelOlatuja on bass.

"What started as a way for two musicians to get out of the house during the pandemic has turned into nightly concerts at the boathouse in Brooklyn's Prospect Park — with fans who expect them to play three to four hours a night, seven nights a week." @Patch

This day featured @MelikeOnEarth_ , with an impromptu performance by @Mikaelle_Cartright.

Try to make it to the Boathouse before the snow comes.
The music starts at 6pm 7 days a week.

As the sunlight dwindled, the ISO on my camera had to go up, then I switched to using an on-camera flash, with a modifier.

~~~ Lola Star's Dreamland Roller Disco Parties has returned to the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park

Lakeside is a 16,000 square foot, open-air, covered rink near Prospect Park Lake.

This was an interesting test of making photos using a Sony a7 III full-frame mirrorless camera, and a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens, in challenging conditions: very low light, alternating colored spot lights, moving subjects, through a plexiglass wall.

• Shutter speed ranged from 1/100 sec to 1/200 sec
• f-stop was f/2.8 for most of the photos
• Auto ISO was set to max out at 3200 ISO
• Auto White Balance enabled
• No flash or additional lighting used by me

It's was good practice, as there were very few events this summer.
